Brother PWB250 is a manufacturer-documented prewound bobbin for specific Brother sewing and embroidery machines. Brother identifies it as a reusable clear plastic bobbin in the 11.5 mm format. Each bobbin contains approximately 105 yards of white 78/2 polyester embroidery bobbin thread, and the package contains ten bobbins.
This is a focused compatibility guide, not a broad “best prewound bobbins” ranking. Accessible first-party evidence supports PWB250 for the Brother models listed by Brother. It does not support a fair multi-manufacturer ranking under the same compatibility standard.
Why this article has a narrower scope#
Research updated: August 10, 2026.
A broad best-of comparison needs comparable product-specific evidence from multiple manufacturers. At minimum, that evidence should identify:
- The exact bobbin format and construction.
- The thread material, size, and approximate yardage.
- The compatible machines or a manufacturer-defined bobbin system.
- Any special installation or bobbin-case requirements.
Brother supplies these details for PWB250, including a current model list. Fil-Tec supplies detailed specifications and setup instructions for Magna-Glide Classic Style L, but its reviewed sources do not provide product-specific approval for the Brother PR machines discussed in the earlier article.
The Fil-Tec fit chart also says that its machine guidance is based on customer feedback. That is not equivalent to machine-manufacturer approval. Because the available evidence does not create a comparable multi-brand set, this revision removes the broad ranking and removes Magna-Glide from the product data.
No product in this article receives a “best value” designation. We did not compare verified prices, cost per yard, equivalent pack quantities, or total operating costs.
Heads up
Use the exact bobbin specified for your machine. A similar diameter or the words “Class 15” or “Style L” do not, by themselves, prove compatibility.
Brother PWB250 specifications#
Brother documents the following product details:
| Attribute | Documented specification |
|---|---|
| Product | PWB250 |
| Bobbin construction | Reusable clear plastic |
| Bobbin size | 11.5 mm |
| Thread color | White |
| Thread material | Polyester |
| Thread designation | 78/2 |
| Weight designation | 60 weight |
| Approximate thread length | 105 yards per bobbin |
| Package quantity | 10 bobbins |
Brother calls PWB250 a genuine Brother accessory for machine embroidery. Its current product page includes a long “For Use With” list. Examples include PE800, PE900, SE600, SE700, SE1900, SE2000, NQ1600E, NQ1700E, XP1, XP2, and XP3.
These examples are not a substitute for the complete current list. Check the exact model number on the Brother product page before ordering. Do not infer support for a related model that is not listed.
Brother’s bobbin warning#
Brother manuals and support material warn users to use the bobbin supplied with the machine or a bobbin of the same specified type. For machines that specify the 11.5 mm SA156/Class 15 format, Brother cautions that another bobbin can cause injury or machine damage.
PWB250 has a stronger compatibility basis than a generic marketplace bobbin because Brother itself lists the supported machines on the product page. Even so, the machine’s current manual remains the controlling source. Confirm the model and required bobbin before installation.
The warning is especially important when comparing 11.5 mm home-machine bobbins with shorter Style L products. Similar outside diameters do not make the formats interchangeable.
Why Magna-Glide Classic Style L is not a ranked recommendation here#
Fil-Tec documents Magna-Glide Classic as a magnetic-core bobbin available in Style L and M/Jumbo formats. For Style L, Fil-Tec and its Hab+Dash division document:
- A maximum outside diameter of 0.820 inch.
- A width of 0.356 inch.
- Tex 12 continuous-filament polyester thread.
- Approximately 135 yards for white and 130 yards for black or colors.
- Use with a metal bobbin case.
- Removal of the anti-backlash spring before use.
- Installation with the magnet facing down.
- No intended use in a drop-in bobbin system.
These facts establish the product’s construction and installation requirements. They do not establish compatibility with a specific Brother PR model.
Brother says PR1000, PR1000E, PR1050X, PR1055X, PR600, PR600II, PR620, PR650, PR650E, and PR670E use SA159 Class 96 Type L metal bobbins. On that same support page, Brother says users must use the included bobbin or the same bobbin type because bobbins from other models can prevent correct operation. Brother explicitly warns that another bobbin can cause injury or machine damage and recommends genuine Brother parts and accessories.
Therefore, the fact that Magna-Glide and SA159 are both described as Style L does not support a Magna-Glide recommendation for those Brother machines. The reviewed Fil-Tec pages do not identify these Brother models as product-specific supported applications, and Brother does not endorse Magna-Glide on the reviewed pages.
Heads up
Do not treat Brother’s Style L specification as approval for Fil-Tec Magna-Glide. For a Brother PR machine, follow the manual and Brother’s bobbin warning. Ask Brother or an authorized dealer before considering a third-party substitution.
What PWB250 does and does not establish#
PWB250 is supported for the Brother models named on its official product page. The available evidence establishes its dimensions, plastic construction, thread designation, approximate yardage, color, pack quantity, and manufacturer-listed applications.
It does not establish any of the following:
- Compatibility with every machine that uses the term “Class 15.”
- Compatibility with another manufacturer’s sewing or embroidery machine.
- Better stitch quality than a correctly wound reusable bobbin.
- Better tension, durability, or reliability than another product.
- A lower cost per yard or better value than bulk prewound bobbins.
- Compatibility based only on appearance or outside diameter.
We did not sew with the product, measure tension, compare stitch quality, or verify long-term durability. We also did not use marketplace ratings or reseller compatibility claims as evidence.
Buying checklist#
Before ordering PWB250:
- Find the complete machine model number.
- Confirm that the model appears on Brother’s current PWB250 product page.
- Read the bobbin instructions and warnings in the machine manual.
- Confirm that you need white thread.
- Confirm that the offer contains ten PWB250 bobbins.
- Check the seller and product number before payment.
- Do not substitute a shorter Style L bobbin because its diameter looks similar.
If your machine is not on Brother’s PWB250 list, use the bobbin part number in its manual. Our guide to choosing a replacement bobbin case explains why the bobbin, case, and tension system must be matched.
Verdict#
Brother PWB250 is a well-documented choice only for the Brother machines that Brother explicitly lists as compatible. It provides ten reusable clear 11.5 mm plastic bobbins, each with approximately 105 yards of white 78/2 polyester embroidery bobbin thread.
This article does not name an overall winner across manufacturers. The accessible evidence did not support a comparable multi-brand field with product-specific machine compatibility. It also does not recommend Fil-Tec Magna-Glide Classic Style L for Brother PR machines: Brother’s documentation warns against other bobbins, and the reviewed Fil-Tec sources do not provide model-specific compatibility evidence that overrides that warning.

Q & A
Frequently asked questions
- Is Brother PWB250 compatible with every Class 15 machine?
- No. Brother documents PWB250 for a specific list of Brother machines. An 11.5 mm measurement or a Class 15 label alone does not establish compatibility with another model or manufacturer.
- How much thread is on a Brother PWB250 bobbin?
- Brother states that each PWB250 bobbin contains approximately 105 yards of white 78/2 polyester embroidery bobbin thread and identifies it as 60 weight.
- Can I use Magna-Glide Style L in a Brother PR machine?
- This guide does not recommend that substitution. Brother says the listed PR machines use SA159 Class 96 Type L metal bobbins, but it also warns users to use the included bobbin or the same bobbin type. Brother states that other bobbins can cause injury or machine damage. The reviewed Fil-Tec sources do not provide product-specific evidence approving Magna-Glide Classic for those Brother models.
